Zion National Park, UT Travel Tips
- Angels Landing now requires a permit via a lottery system on recreation.gov — enter the seasonal lottery well in advance, as this is one of the most sought-after permits in the NPS.
- In summer, start hiking by 7 AM to beat the heat and crowds; temperatures in Zion Canyon regularly exceed 100°F by midday from June through August.
- The Narrows hike requires checking the Virgin River flow forecast — flash flooding is a real danger and the NPS closes the hike when water levels are unsafe.
- Private vehicles are prohibited on Zion Canyon Scenic Drive in peak season — park at the visitor center and use the free, frequent park shuttle that stops at all major trailheads.
- Book lodging in Springdale (just outside the park entrance) 4–6 months in advance for spring and fall visits — the town fills up fast and staying here gives you the best early morning trail access.
