Grand Canyon National Park, AZ Travel Tips
- Book in-park lodging (Bright Angel Lodge, El Tovar, or Yavapai Lodge) 6–12 months in advance — they fill up extremely fast, especially for spring and fall.
- Use the free South Rim shuttle buses instead of driving — parking near the rim is extremely limited during peak season and the shuttles stop at every major overlook.
- Never hike to the Colorado River and back in a single day from the South Rim — the NPS strongly discourages this; heat, dehydration, and distance make it dangerous for most hikers.
- Carry at least one liter of water per hour of hiking and eat salty snacks — the dry desert air and elevation cause rapid dehydration even when it doesn't feel hot.
- Arrive at Mather Point or Desert View for sunrise to experience the canyon's most dramatic light and colors with a fraction of the midday crowd.
