Acadia National Park, ME Travel Tips
- A vehicle reservation is required to drive to the Cadillac Mountain Summit and other popular areas during peak season (late May through October) — book at recreation.gov well in advance as slots fill up weeks ahead.
- Rent a bike in Bar Harbor and explore Acadia's famous carriage road network — it's the single best way to experience the park's interior at a relaxed pace with minimal car traffic.
- Arrive at Thunder Hole around 2 hours before high tide for the most dramatic ocean surge sound and spray — check the Bar Harbor tide chart and time your visit accordingly.
- Jordan Pond House is a beloved Acadia tradition — arrive early (it opens at 11 AM) for the famous popovers and tea with a view of the Bubbles mountains before lines form.
- Stay in Bar Harbor for the most central access to the park, but book 4–6 months in advance for summer and fall — it's a small, extremely popular town with limited accommodations.
